New Debate!!

Should celebrities keep their mouths shut about politics or should they be able to endorse a candidate? Before you make your decision here are some points from both sides.

Yes: Celebrities should be able to endorse candidates by wearing shirts, having bumper stickers, even talking about their favorite candidate on TV.
Celebrities should be treated just like normal people. If a normal person was to wear an Obama or McCain t-shirt, you wouldn't yell at them, would you? Just like anyone else, famous people have the right to vote and it's great that they're taking time out of their busy schedules to do so.

No: Celebrities should keep their opinions to themselves and stick to what they do best, whether it be acting, singing, dancing, directing, etc.
Let's face it, some Americans are so obsessed with their favorite celebrity that they could go from a McCain supporter to a Barack fan the minute the celebrity says 'Obama!'. An average person should not be influenced by Hollywood.

Illegal Immigrants

Do you think that both mexican and chinese immigrants should be allowed to live in the US? Or do you thing that only mexicans or only chinese...ian immigrants should be allowed? Or do you think neither should be allowed? What do YOU think?

Personally, I think that they should both be allowed. Is it really THEIR fault that they weren't born in the US? Or that they live in China, Mexico, or any other country? Obviously, the US is doing way better than those two countries. So, of course they will want to live somewhere where their children can grow up and have a better life than they did. Which is the key to this whole situation - all they want is a better life. So unless the US can find some way to get them a happy life in Mexico by making more jobs, better houses, more food, etc., why can't we just let them in the US for now? Imagine yourself in the shoes of one of those countries' citizens. What would you do? Would you stay there and suffer? Or would you try to get your family over to the US ASAP?

Is it fair that some children are smuggled to America against their will? What do YOU think?

No! You should be able to have a say in whether you want to come to America or not. Many of these smuggled children and up alone and on the streets, having to work their poor butts off trying to send money back to their parents. Yeah, so their parents just want their child to have a better life. Has it ever occured that being separated from your family and having to work as hard as they can isn't exactly a better life? Unfortunately, that isn't really my definition of 'better life'. How do you think you'd feel if you had to work for 12/13 hours a day, 6 days a week or something? At your age right now? What if you never saw your family again?

United Idiots of America (American Idiot-For Real!)

I, for one, do understand the dangers of modern society. I mean, think about it, forget to look both ways one day and *WHAM!* you're roadkill. Or just being caught in the crossfire because of our violence-prone minds. Its so horrifying. But, even with all of this, are we a nation of idiots? Seriously, our people hate smarts so much that dimsitted-fools consistently make the news, like Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan. We live in a nation where we intellectuals (or "nerds", "geeks", "dorks", whatever, as we are called) are looked down upon and mocked. But even this, in a nation of idiots and a world of danger, are we that stupid? Today, in anticipation of tomorrows (hopeful) snow, my mom asked me to bring up some firewood and neatly stack it in front of the fireplace. As I did so, I noticed on the plastic wrap the label: "!!! Caution contents flammable !!!" WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO?!?!? Are we a nation of idiots? Ok, warning labels are there to protect us, but A FLAMMABILITY WARNING??? On FIREWOOD??? Not only ARE we idiots, the government and the companies KNOW we are and think we're stupider than the ranking of "idiots." Its stupid or in that "News of the Weird" with the Eggnog that was recalled becuase it didn't mention "eggs" on its ingredients list. Many find these funny, but I find it sad, our country is worse than Iran, we're not only violent and a danger to the world, but we're idiots and don't know when to be violent. Its just creepy. To quote Stephen Lynch's famous (or infamous) song, "Special Fred", We're "just a little bit special, just a little bit SPECIAL!"

Presidential Stress: Is it Really Worth it?

Please keep in mind that I'm not saying that I like the president, but is there really anything we can do about his decision? NO. So we might as well just chill out and forget the subject of the president. Yes, we are in a war, but as 7th graders, we can't do anything about that. Take a minute to put yourself in the shoes of the soldiers, their families, and the Iraqis that are being bombed as we speak. I don't think that even 1 in 100 Americans even think about what we are really fighting for everyday. What about the soldiers that are giving their lives for something that no one cares about? Would you like to go to bed at night thinking, "Wow. I might die tomorrow, but who really cares? I'm just another one of the million who is out here fighting for something that 999,999,999/1,000,000,000 of our country doesn't even believe in!!!!!!" There can't be anyone that would like that, so just get over the president, because there isn't anything we can do about what he has done!! Because we can't do anything, we should just accept the fact that we are 9,169,614,693,395.13 dollars in debt (as of 7:40 pm EST December 11) and we have a president that needs to consider what he has truly done to his country. We aren't 18, so our thoughts don't really count. We might as well just accept it and move on to more important things.

Preppularity/Prep•pu•lar•i•ty - The quality or state of being preppy, full or themselves, spoiled, having their own groups, etc.
Popularity/Pop•u•lar•i•ty - The quality or state of being popular, especially the state of being widely admired, accepted, or sought after.
Nerdy/Ner•dy - A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.
NBR/N B R - Nerdy beyond repair. I'm sure you know who I'm talking about.
In-Between/In Be•tween - For this word, at school, it means you don't have a social group. You hang out with everyone.
Other/O•ther - For this word, at school, it means that you are in a tiny clique of people. For example, inappropriateness. *cough* I think we know what that means..

Nowadays, there are many preppular people, especially in middle school. Personally, I don't really care for these type of people. I actually don't care for any of these 'social classes'. For example, I would never call someone a nerd. If I do, I'm saying it so that other people know who I'm talking about. Some people consider [insert name here] a nerd. I don't. This word was just invented to put down smarter people that prefer to hang out with people they like. I'm friends with quite a few of them, and if you dislike them because they're nerds or you think they're wierd, dorky, etc., you're probably more in the preppular area. I'm considered 'popular', but people say it's the "good" popular. I don't want to be popular though, for I have a fear that becoming 'popular' - even if it is the "good" kind - will turn me into a preppular person. Well, that's beside the point. Anyways, I'm considered popular, but that's because I'm friends with people from each 'social class'. But anyways, I'm continuing with this article now...

What's the point of these social classes? Why can't we all just be friends with one another? I admit, there are some people that I really dislike, but I would never hate someone. [Hate is a strong word.] Why couldn't this be a world where noone cared about looking good to become preppular or popular? Why couldn't this be a world where there weren't any social classes at all? I highly dislike these social classes. I think they're useless. Really, what's the point? If I had to choose any social class to be in, I would choose In-Between. Why? Because I am in-between. If you're an in-between person, you're friends with everyone. Or acquaintances. So I have a question for you. What do you think your life would be like if you weren't under a certain classification of social abilities? Would it improve? Would it be worse? Would it stay the same?

Spirit Week

Spirit Week, as we all know, has been delayed due to a fund-raising inconvenience. This has given teachers time to look over their options for a dress-code Spirit Week. (Ugh... the words don't even go together!) Let's try to look at it from their point of view: Kids will be furious when they find out we can't dress up for Spirit Week, right? Petitions, anger, frustration... even more than there is now. What can we do? Aha! Let's try to make them happier by... giving them something else! Here's an idea... another DANCE! Okay, lets stop right here. Is it just me, or does this scream unfair to you? Hey, I'd love another dance! A whole closing, end-of-Spirit-Week thing... but it's original intentions make me mad. Why might we have it? The staff is trying to placate us, so we won't, like, attack the school or go on strike or something. (In the means of going on strike, I have some interesting ideas. Email me to find out more.) Why can't they just give us a dance to be nice or something? Another thing: this dance sounds really cool... grr. It'd be an evening dance and all, form, like, 7 to 9. It may be only 7th and 8th grade (I've even heard rumors that it might be only 8th!) and also might have the whole 'King and Queen' of Spirit Week thing as part of it. My response: WHAT!!?? King and Queen? We have enough Middle School drama as it is... My Solution: Wait until something is official. If they announce that Spirit Week still has full Dress Code standards, (get ready for it...) don't participate! Arrange within our own little groups for Spirit Week to be the NEXT week, or two from the original. See what the teachers say then, huh? Does this sound fair to you? Will you be placated with the promise of another dance?

Funds

As we all know, our school, expectational band, needs more funding. It just isn't right to have us play on damaged instruments. The worst is percussion. I sit near where they play, or as Mr. T says, percussion land. Have you seen their bass drum? (That big one in the back right.) It has a few holes in it and is covered with duct tape! The xylophone is just as bad. It is held together by an old shoe lace that looks like it's about to snap in two. Mr. T also said tht there are maybe four keys that make a clanking sound. Even though I think money should go to chairs that have cushions in them so our chubby little rumps don't get sore from the constant sitting we all must do(except for the percussion), even though Mr. T will never listen to my idea about cushions or even leathers chairs, I really think that new percussion instrumentation might help the band more. It might even cover up some of the percussionists terribleness! (If that's even a word.) I think the band students aren't the only people suffering due to insignificant funds.. The orchestra might also be. (You can correct me if I am wrong, Aaron.) I know that Mr. Grady said he needs to go and get some cord or cable or something to help get the internet up and running since the school took it because it wasn't working, and they never replaced it. How sad. Art is always in need of supplies so why not help raise money for it? If you guys have any ideas reply on here tell Mr T or other faculty and you could even tell your student counsel representative for your homeroom. Let's think together first. What should you not suggest? Ooh! Ooh! I know! Pick me! Okay, the answer is dances. Everyone knows that they are lame, even the class couples. [Actually, this year it will be MUCH better. And last year, it was a bunch of fun! - Note from Silly.] Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! So think of something else, then tell whoever you want. Just make sure the word spreads. What would our school be without funds? ...Well, it would be how our school is now...

As long as your article is literate, coherent, and has a point to it, I will let it remain up here. Pointless things will be deleted. (Sorry for deleting yours, Beardy, it was just... off topic.)
